THIRD year Salford University student Robert Cummins-White has landed a role in the pilot for the new Television comedy series ‘Smoked’.
The drama come comedy show is about the characters within a struggling pub in Stockport.
The opportunity arose when the show’s director contacted his lecturer, Kate Adams, to recommend suitable students for the role.
After sending over his CV, Robert got an invitation to a casting a few days later. His audition went well and was offered the role two days later via email.
They are currently filming the Pilot now until January before they pitch the show to several networking channels.
It has been confirmed that two series have been written. The cast are currently going through the table reads before filming soon after, in what Robert described to be an exciting medium.
“It is a very professional environment, it’s really exciting,” Robert said.
“I play character called Bagnall and he is the shift leader, he enjoys the suffering of others.”
Robert is playing alongside well-established actors Charlie Lawson (Jim McDonald, Coronation Street) and Johnny Bennett (Liam Gallagher, Shameless).
All going well, Robert could be yet another student at the University of Salford to fall into the limelight.
He will be following in the steps of Peter Kay who opened the university’s New Adelphi Building last week and other known actors.
Lecturer Kate added: “It’s great that we can offer our students these potentially life-changing opportunities while they study here at Salford. When I heard about the auditions, I put Robert forward straight away. We’re all really pleased he got the part.”
Robert says that he is yet to meet some cast members but is very excited to be starting the project. He hopes the show will be picked up and be on our screens soon.
