United unable to break City’s record in Manchester derby

Manchester United were unable to break Manchester City’s unbeaten record as they lose 2-1 at Old Trafford.

David Silva and Otamendi were the goal scorers for City making them the first team to win 14 successive Premier League games.

Marcus Rashford took advantage of Manchester City’s weakest point, in the defence, to bring a late goal in the first half but City were the strongest team overall denying United any points at the 175^th Derby.

Manchester City strengthened their Premier League lead to 11 points as they dominated United with a 65% possession. They were rewarded late on in the first half as Man of the Match, David Silva scored from a corner in the 43^rd minute.

United seemed to wake up following City’s goal and made their first aggressive break. Marcus Rashford punished City’s poor defensive work with a goal in first half stoppage time leaving the Manchester teams level at half time.

Rashford has now been involved in 11 goals in 12 games at Old Trafford this season, more than any other United player, with 6 goals and 5 assists.

The second half took a similar turn as Manchester United were overwhelmed by City’s attacking force.

The final goal of the game once again came from a set piece as Romelu Lukaku’s poor clearance of a free kick landed at the feet of Otamendi who’s goal made him the top scoring defender in the Premier League.

Lukaku’s game was later summed up as he failed to score an almost certain equaliser as Ederson made a double save in the 84^th minute denying Lukaku and Mata a goal.

With Manchester City yet to lose a game this season, the title race seems to be slipping out of reach for the Reds and Mourinho has stated that he thinks the title race is over. “Manchester City are a very good team and they are protected by the luck, and the gods of football are behind them.”

Despite a flare being set of during the Derby leaving a red mist within Old Trafford; the city was left blue as Manchester City extended their winning streak.
