MANCHESTER United progressed to the last 16 of the Champions League last night after beating CSKA Moscow 2-1 at Old Trafford.
Only a seven goal loss would have prevented the Reds from progressing to the next round of the competition but a win was essential to build confidence ahead of the game against Manchester City at the weekend.
Despite Alan Dzagoev having no knowledge of his deflection from Vitinho’s shot and most players on the pitch believing he was offside, the goal stood and Moscow went ahead just before half time.
United had been dominant up to this point but a one nil deficit meant the Reds had to produce in the second half.
Romelu Lukaku was too strong for the Moscow defence as he got on the end of Paul Pogba’s cross to get himself a vital goal to draw United level.
Just over a minute later, Marcus Rashford got on the end of a smart ball from Juan Mata and fired into the bottom corner to give United the lead.

The Reds held on until the final whistle and will find out who they will face in the last 16 on Monday.
Last night’s resul also meant that United remained unbeaten at home in their last 40 games at Old Trafford.

They could face tough opposition in the round of 16 however, with sides such as Bayern Munich, Chelsea and Juventus all finishing second within their groups last night.
There is more action tonight in the last round of group games in the UEFA Champions League as United’s rivals, Manchester City travel to Ukraine to face Shakhtar Donetsk. All this ahead of the much anticipated Manchester Derby on Sunday from Old Trafford.
