FORMER Manchester City goalkeeper Shay Given struck out at Roberto Mancini back at the club yesterday to sign his new autobiography, “Any Given Saturday”.
The book contains controversial insights into life at Manchester City, with former city boss Roberto Mancini, at the heart of Given’s gripes. “Mancini got a bit of a bad touch. I just gave my honest opinion about what happened when I left City.
“I felt I was harshly treated by Mancini.”
The former Republic of Ireland international was full of praise for the current City team: “They’re flying, really great to watch, scoring lots of goals, keeping clean sheets as well. It’s a really entertaining brand of football.”
As well as documenting the highs and lows of his long spanning playing career, Given talks about his childhood and other poignant personal moments, such as the death of his close friend Gary Speed in 2011.
“It’s mostly about my playing career, growing up in Ireland as well. I lost my mum when I was four. I talk about that a lot.”
Despite previous fall outs, Given does speak positively about Man City : “The club have been really good to me. I have a really good relationship with the club.”
The book signing took place before City’s 2-1 victory over Southampton, where they regained their eight point lead at the top of the Premier League.
