POLICE have launched a murder investigation after a woman was found dead in a house in Rochdale.
The body of the 39-year-old mother of two was discovered by the police officers after they had been given a call around 11.35 last night to an address on Birch Crescent, Newhey.
The police initiated now an investigation to determine the circumstances of her death and they treat
it as murder.
Before the officers arrived at the house, a 40-year-old man was taken to hospital with serious injuries. However, the police have since arrested him on suspicion of murder.
Detective Superintendent Howard Millington from GMP’s Major Incident Team said: “We have had a team of officers working on this investigation throughout the night, who have acted swiftly and following further enquiries we now have arrested a man on suspicion of murder.
“He is currently being treated at hospital for injuries he sustained prior to his arrest.”
Detective Superintendent Millington also expressed his condolences to the woman’s family: “My thoughts continue to remain with this woman’s loved ones at this devastating time, I can’t imagine what they are going through right now.”
The officers believe this to be an isolated incident and said they do not consider that there is any wider danger to the public.
The police ask anyone who has any information that could help the investigation to contact them on 101 or to call anonymously the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
