Tomorrow marks the day that Varsity 2017 comes to Salford University after being hosted by Chester University last year. Several of the university’s sports teams will battle their opponents for the second time with sports such as fencing, netball, and ultimate frisbee.
A whopping 22 sports will be played throughout the action-packed day and will be played in different locations to facilitate for the different sports. The sporting events will take place at the Salford Sports Centre, Timperley Sports Club, Sale Riding School, Allerton Sports Hall, Albert Park and Trafford Rugby Club. David Lewis playing fields can no longer be used due to weather conditions making the field “unplayable”.

In addition to the sporting events, the student union bar, Atmosphere Bar & Kitchen, will have several deals on throughout the day such as breakfast and lunch buffet, free fries with any burger and 2 jagerbombs for £5. Atmosphere Bar & Kitchen will also be hosting a Varsity after party!

Andy Hargreaves, sports participation coordinator for University of Salford Students Union said: “Team Salford have worked amazingly hard to create Salford Varsity 2017 which is being hosted for the first time here.
“The event provides opportunities to also highlight the diverse range of activity groups we have who will be supporting the event with performances.”
The performance area will be outside Peel Park Quarter accommodation where societies like Pole Fitness will be performing and other societies like the brand new American Football team will have stalls. Click here for the full schedule.

Due to the David Lewis playing fields no longer being playable, the Students Union and Salford sports teams are currently working together to arrange mini buses to Trafford Rugby club for supporters to watch the Rugby Union games. The rest of the venues are either walkable from the main University campus or transport will have already been arranged.
Come support Team Salford tomorrow from 10am onwards to heighten the atmosphere and help them bring the Varsity cup home!
