THE NEW Charlatans album, which features eight guest artists, will be released on the 26th May.
‘Different Days’ follows the band’s last LP ‘Modern Nature’, and will be the Manchester four piece’ 13th studio album. ‘Modern Nature’ marked the bands eighth Top 10 in the UK album charts in 2015, two sold out tours and a surprise slot at Glastonbury of that year.
The Charlatans self-produced the record at their studio in Crewe, and includes guest contributions from Paul Weller, Johnny Marr, and ‘New Order’ drummer Stephen Morris. Other guest appearances include crime writer Ian Rankin and actress Sharon Horgan, who provides vocals.
Of Different Days, The Charlatans said: “There was no glare of expectation for the follow up to ‘Modern Nature’ as nobody really knew we were writing or recording or anything.”
“Johnny Marr plays guitar on three tracks and Paul Weller joined us for a song too.”
“Influences included, among other things, Stranger Things, The Get Down, Brazil, Amy Schumer and Frank Ocean.”
“To us it represents an upbeat view of a world that might well be falling apart, in a time you have to work out who your friends are, and gather them around you.”
The announcement of the release of the record is supported by a busy, Manchester orientated schedule for the band.
On Friday 26th of May at The Lowry theatre, front-man Tim Burgess and guitarist Mark Collins will be performing live, and the band will be signing copies of the record.
The following day (Saturday 27th March) will see the band at another album signing session, at Gary Neville’s Hotel Football. That same day The Charlatans will play in front 50,000 fans at Emirates Old Trafford, when the band is the main support act for The Courteeners.
Different Days will be available on 12” vinyl, CD, cassette, and to download – it’s available to pre-order now.
