SPORTS festival Go Fest 2017 is arriving in Manchester this June, bringing a range of sports activities and events to the North.
After originally being hosted at Surrey sports park, founder Paul Ferris is taking his event to the Commonwealth Games facilities at Sport City, where professionals will conduct sports classes for families and friends on the 24th and 25th of June.
Founder Paul Farris said, “There is amazing facilities at Sport city, as well as a very progressive council and county sports partnership.
“People are so warm and keen to get it going, and it’s a big catchment area and a very sporty city!”
During the weekend, there will be a number of different sports activities including races and relays, football lacrosse, netball tournaments and dance.
“People can expect a massive choice of activities to have a go at, for all ages, abilities and experience. Many of the activities will have 30 – 45 min coaching sessions from professionals throughout the weekend as well” Paul explained.
Not only will there be sport activities, but the event will provide food, drink and entertainment, including massage and retail areas.
After the success of Go Fest 2015 and 2016, the event is going into its third year at its original venue Surrey Sports Park at the end of May.
“My love of sport, the obesity and inactivity crises and what we didn’t really do as a nation post Olympics inspired me to set Go Fest up.
“I have always had sport in my life, seeing my kids play now is even more fun!” Paul expressed.
Since the event was set up in Surrey in 2015, 5,500 people have taken part so far.
Positive feedback included over 46% of adults and 54% of children taking up a new sport or activity as a result of “having a Go” at it during Go Fest 2016.
Continuing their success, the event has recently formed a media partnership with Trinity Mirror plc, the biggest print and digital media group in the UK.
Paul said, “We have contributions from National governing bodies, small and larger business and local sports clubs, with about 30 – 40 different partners at each sports event.”
