Salford Mayor, Paul Dennet has spoken out about Salford’s future and his plans for the next few years in a CityCo conference today.
Hosted by the new Embankment office development alongside CityCo, the organisation behind the Heart of Manchester BID (Business Improvement District), the discussion tackled issues such as local skills and business, public realm and arts and culture within Salford.
Speaking alongside guests including The Lowry, the CitySession talk, ‘Salford – New Frontiers’, Paul Dennett asserted that as one of the greenest authorities in Greater Manchester, Salford is leading the way in terms of public realm.
Speaking of the continuation of improvement in Salford, Dennet noted that one of the most important elements is ensuring public and private sectors work together.

A spokesperson for The Lowry stated that Salford has opportunity for art and culture, with Greengate, an area between chapel street and Sacred Trinity Church and an area across the River Irwell from Manchester Cathedral becoming potential options for in-between participatory cultural spaces.
The Mayor mentioned that a way to celebrate improvements and new connections in the area would be to host a ‘Proms in the Park’ event at Salford’s urban public space, Peel Park.
The talk comes after last week’s shocking report that stated a quarter of all children in Salford live in poverty, with some parents budgeting as little as £1.50 per day for food. The report raised questions on the potential increase in the gap between economically well off and struggling families.
