Saturday’s clash at the Moore Lane against AFC Fylde, who were eight points clear at the top of the National League North table at that time, was highly anticipated by the fans and the players in Salford.

After being defeated against Halifax in the Shay Stadium, the local team had a perfect reaction, winning Nuneaton town at home and achieving an away victory against United of Manchester respectively.

On Saturday afternoon, Salford City players were looking to regain the second spot while the favourites wanted to add three more points in their championship course.

The home side was able to take an early lead at the 12th minute with the header of central defender Billy Priestley. Attacking midfielder, Jordan Hulme gave them a two-goal advantage with a tricky shot outside the box fifteen minutes on the game and the two teams went to the locker rooms with Salford City dominating.

The course of the game did not change on the second half, but it was not until the 75th minute when the Salford players managed to secure the victory.

Michael Phenix got in the course of Josh Hine’s cross in the far post and pushed the ball in the back of the net, scoring his 13th goal of the season.

The Ammies didn’t stop there as Jordan Hulme scored his second goal in the 90th minute with an easy tap in after John Johnston hit the bar and completed the hat-trick with a penalty kick during the injury time, making the final score 5-0 against the top spot contenders who were helpless to react.

Salford City FC, who extended their winning streak at three games, was settled at the second place of the table, five points clear from the sixth Halifax Town and sent a clear message that they are here to fight for the promotion. That easy win against AFC Fylde was an absolute confidence boost for them in sight of the upcoming tough games.

This Saturday they are visiting the LCI Rail Stadium on Cheltenham, Gloucestershire to be faced against the local Gloucester City who are laying at the mid-table, having won four of their last five games. Phenix and Hulme, who are on a scoring spree, will try to lead Salford City FC to their fourth win in the last four games before returning home to play against Stalybridge Celtic.
