MANCHESTER United vice-chairman Ed Woodward has penned a letter to offer the club’s support to Brazilian club Chapecoense.
United have joined all top-flight Brazilian clubs in offering Chape players after the majority of their first team was tragically wiped out in a plane crash last month.
The Reds suffered a similar ordeal when a plane carrying United players crashed on the way home from a European fixture in Munich in 1958, killing 23 members of the first team staff.
Among the dead were club legends Duncan Edwards, Roger Byrne and Tommy Taylor.
In the letter, Woodward offered the club’s condolences to the friends and family of the victims in the crash and referenced the Munich disaster in stating that the Brazilian club can use United as an inspiration to recover from the tragedy.
United themselves were supported by fellow English clubs after the Munich disaster by being given players and aid so the club has pledged to reciprocate that in the form of giving Chape the same support.
The Brazilian side have appointed Vagner Mancini to see over the clubs rebuild and the Brazilian league bosses have ruled that the side are to be immune from relegation for the next three seasons.
