The award-winning restaurant first opened in Leeds 2014, but has branched across the Pennines with its huge new site located in Piccadilly Gardens that opened its doors yesterday.
A collaboration between award-winning family-run Gujarati restaurant, Prashad, in Drighlington, and the specialist beer bar, The Sparrow, in Bradford, co-founders Mayur Patel and Mark Husak decided to turn what was originally a pop-up project into the real deal.
Industrial-esque and decked out with vintage Bollywood posters, cosy booths, and pops of colour, this stylish new joint has taken over what used to be the all-you-can-eat Chinese restaurant, Buffet Metro, next to Subway.
Take A Look Inside Bundobust from Manchester Confidential on Vimeo.
Bundobusts’ menu is completely vegetarian and vegan Indian street food, served in little cardboard pots and plates, which adds to the relaxed and quirky street style that the brand promotes.
Adding to the laid back approach, the restaurant doesn’t operate on a table service basis. Instead customers can casually order at the bar whenever they are ready.
Furthermore, all of the food on the menu is a penny-saving £6 or less, with tasty combo deals that include everything on menu for just £66, and lunchtime deals that run Monday to Friday 12pm – 4pm.
You could easily get away with ordering only two small plates and be full – the onion bhaji’s burst with flavour and the tarka dhal and rice goes perfectly with either the flatbreads or the steamed rice dumplings. Both of which are under £2.00.
As well as serving street food, Bundobust have a wide variety of specialist craft beers and intriguing cocktails. They offer classics with exotic Asian twists, such as the Mumbai Mule and the Coconut and Mango Mojito. They even serve boozy chai beverages that are perfect, spiced, winter warmers.
Last year Bundobust Leeds was included in Buzzfeed’s, ‘21 British Street Foods You Must Try Before You Die,’ amongst a cluster of other awards and highly positive reviews, so it’s certainly worthy of a visit.
