THERE had been doubts about whether Dereck Chisora’s fight against Dillian Whyte would go ahead this Saturday after the unwelcome scenes from Wednesday’s press conference, however the BBBofC have only fined Chisora- meaning the fight will still go ahead.
The press conference midweek in Manchester saw ‘Del Boy’ pick up a table and throw it towards his rival as things got heated.
The British Boxing Board of Control called an emergency meeting on Thursday following the scenes that took place the day before, which cast doubt over whether the fight would go ahead.
Instead, the BBBofC have fined Chisora £25,000 fine with an additional £5,000 in costs. He has also been given a suspended two-year sentence, which will mean an immediate ban without hearing if it is broken.
Dillian Whyte’s British title will also no longer be on the line during their highly anticipated clash at the Manchester Arena. However, the fight will still act as an eliminator for the WBC title.
The weigh in is due to take place at the Victoria Warehouse today from 13:00, however both boxers will do that separately and there will not be a face-off between the two.
The two British athletes are no stranger to controversy, with recent times seeing them come to blows during filming of the ‘The Gloves Are Off’ for Sky Sports.
The full statement from the BBBofC can be found here.
They will be fighting on the undercard for undefeated IBF Champion Anthony Joshua’s fight against Eric Molina.
