OLDHAM ATHLETIC suffered a shock 3-2 defeat at the hands of Lincoln City last night.
Theo Robinson scored first for The Red Imps, who ended his three month goal drought to put Lincoln ahead from close range; after a pinpoint early cross from midfielder Alan Power.
Terry Hawkridge doubled Lincoln’s lead with lightning fast reactions to intercept a lateral pass by Oldham defender Carl Winchester.
Hawkridge was then one on one with Owls keeper Connor Ripley, but kept calm under pressure, and finished the chance with a perfectly placed effort into the bottom right corner.
The host were three goals up not long after the start, Alan Power won the first ball after a poor clearance, before putting in an excellent pass to Robinson who got his second of the game with consummate ease.
Oldham did make an attempt to get back into the game, with Peter Clark scoring a bullet header on 70 minutes to give The Owls the chance of rescuing a result.
Three minutes later Steve Robinson’s men were only one goal down, after Lee Erwin played a slide rule to Billy McKay who scored with a knuckleball effort.
The three goal deficit proved too much for Oldham to claw back however, who couldn’t get an equaliser despite seven minutes of injury time being played.
