ROCK band Highly Suspect sold out Night and Day Café last night to bring a taste of Brooklyn to Manchester.
The venue at the heart of the Northern Quarter, which celebrated it’s 25th birthday in November, welcomed those patiently waiting outside before support band Vukovi.
The Scots, who describe their sound as ‘noisy pop rock’, commanded the stage with a loud hello and promise to get the party started. The four-piece had the crowd hooked, blazing through the band’s uncompromisingly gutsy melodies, the support set continued with front woman Janine standing on the speakers.
Before finishing with Target Practice, the band announced they would be returning to Manchester next year on tour, to celebrate the release of their debut album in March.
After a slight delay, Highly Suspect’s animated and almost comical hype man announced the band’s arrival before they kicked off with crowd favourite Bath Salts, released last year.
The three-piece, made up of twin brothers Rich and Ryan and best mate Johnny, continued with Lost, before a pit opened up at the front of the intimate venue as the drumming descended into dreamy euphoria.

The band, who admit to having an eclectic range of influences, suffered some problems with guitar equipment yet managed to maintain the buzz in the crowd, insisting upon the venue jumping up and down to the next few.
Vanity and Serotonia followed before the infectious My Name Is Human, which is taken from the band’s latest album The Boy Who Died Wolf offering and one that has debuted at number 1 on the Billboard Alternative Album chart.

F**k Me Up had the starry eyed audience singing the lyrics back to the band, as they continued to rock the venue right back from the stage to the street.
The set was certainly a treat for long term and loyal UK fans, where the set lacked audience interaction it more than made up for as the trio packed their set with big records, continuing with Wolf and Round & Round.
Lydia, which earned the band a Grammy nomination this year for Best Rock Song, was evidently another favourite, stealing the show before they with Claudeland to finish.
