STALYBRIDGE Celtic have announced the signing of renowned marksman Scott Spencer following his departure from Stockport County.

The popular striker nicknamed ‘Spence’ is best known for a prolific spell for Hyde United between 2011 and 2014 where he scored 50 goals in 102 league games as the Tigers rose up to and cemented their place in the then Football Conference.

The 27-year-old then made the move to Edgeley Park where he plied his trade for one season, before re-joining Hyde in the Northern Premier League for 2015-16.

He was heading the divisions’ scoring charts before an untimely three-month suspension by the FA ended his season after he ‘failed to immediately report an approach by a third party related to seeking to influence the outcome or conduct of a match or competition’.

Spencer started this season back at Stockport, scoring a crucial goal in their 3-2 win at Altrincham, but he now joins a Stalybridge side currently marooned in the National League North relegation zone.

The former-England C striker scored on his debut for the Bower Fold outfit on Saturday during their narrow defeat to Alfreton and completes a new look strike force for Celtic after Liam Dickinson joined from Bradford Park Avenue last week.

In other news National League North news Altrincham have allowed forward Danny Hattersley to leave the club by mutual consent.

The ex-Halifax hitman arrived at Moss Lane in the summer of 2016 as part of Neil Young’s upheaval of the club but he’s failed to nail down a regular starting berth, making just three starts for the club.

Before joining the Robins, Hattersley has had spells in the National League with Stockport County, Southport, Chester and Halifax Town, with whom he was relegated from the fifth tier but played a part in their FA Trophy winning side of 2015-16.

Altrincham are currently 20th in the National League North with just one league win to their name all campaign.
