JAZZ-POP vocalist Izzy Bizu was given the unenviable task of engaging an early Parklife crowd with the heavens firmly open – and pouring. Our man on the ground Nathan Salt braved the mud and rain to catch a glimpse…
Everything is going right for Izzy Bizu’s career right now.
She is the voice of ‘La Foule’ – the theme song used by the BBC for their Euro 2016 coverage whilst also collaborating on an excellent new record with Honne.
She caught up with one of the team prior to the festival to explain her excitement and how her jazzy-pop vibes can brighten, what was a damp and deflated, Parklife early in the day.
Being amongst the first few acts on the Main Stage is no easy task; crowds are low as arrivals continue to filter through as the day goes on with one eye on the closing headliners.
Bizu, however, produced what turned out to be an incredibly emotional set: it wasn’t clear what had her so tearsome but having met Izzy previously, something certainly wasn’t right in her camp.
Nonetheless, she channelled her overhwleming emotions to aplomb with a fine rendition of her latest single ‘Mad Behaviour’ which is one of many tracks off her debut album, due in September.
Heralded and promoted after being picked up by BBC introducing, Bizu has a sound that very few female artists in the industry possess right now with an almost Dan Smith-like delicate break in voice.
The biggest talking point from this set came from a surprise appearance on stage.
It became a theme as the day went on with Gorgon City also adopting this element of surprise.
She had previously stated that ‘Someone Who Loves You’ won’t feature at Parklife as it is a song only fit for a duet.
Sorry we could only stay a matter of hours but thanks so much @IzzyBizu and @Parklifefest for having us this morning. It were great!

Imagine the surprise then to her adoring fans when Honne emerged to duet with her and showcase the fruits of their recent labour.
Spirits were lifted; the pair don’t do many shows together and so the song is majorly underplayed in a live environment one could argue.
‘White Tiger’ rounded off a short but sweet set where many in attendance were looking for tissues as Bizu’s eyes filled with tears on the large screens either side of the stage.
At times hard to watch but she is doing what she loves to do no matter where in the world she is or in whatever weather.
The emotive nature of the set diluted the positive vibes created by MNEK before her but nonetheless it is hard not to be taken aback by Izzy Bizu and her simply beautiful vocal.
Cheer up Izzy…
