WITH temperatures soaring to as high as 26 degrees, hundreds of peddlers faced the heat to be crowned the winner of the Chinese Dragon Boat Race in Salford Quays.
Thirty teams were roared on as they thrashed their way through the water this weekend.
Team Rowbocops from Greater Manchester Police Salford were crowned winners, completing the 200 metre stretch of river in just 49 seconds.
Organiser Hong Ye Zheng from the Xinhua Chinese Association said: “It was a fantastic event with a record turnout. The boats were dressed in beautiful colours and really lit up the water.
“We had great weather on the day too and the feedback we have had from everyone who attended has been really positive.
“Next year, we hope to have even more teams from the Manchester and Salford community and businesses in the area taking part.”
The Dragon Boat Festival is celebrating its fifth year, with the sport being one of the fastest growing team sports in the world (second only to football).
Visitors were able to sample traditional Chinese food like dumplings, zongzi, steamed cake and eggs boiled with tea leaves and Chinese tea at a range of food stalls.
