MARCH saw Irish quintet Little Green Cars release their new album ‘Ephemera’ ahead of their  UK tour. Quays News entertainment reporter Jasmine Rigby caught up with band member Adam O’Regan prior to Manchester’s Dot to Dot Festival to see how everything is going…

The Irish band originally named Little Red Cars, consists of five Dublin friends: Stevie Appleby, Dylan Lynch, Donagh Seaver O’Leary , Adam O’Regan and Faye O’Rourke. Since 2007 the band have been evolving, touring America and the UK, supporting Jake Bugg on tour and previously releasing three singles.

O’Regan said: “The album name to us means the past and a time, fading of life and living in the moment.

The thing with writing this album is we were trying to confront some big truths head on, sometimes the truth is frightening, sometimes it disappoints you and sometimes it can’t answer questions but it’s only by confronting it that you can begin to learn it’s meaning.”

The quintet, who describe their new album as ‘time, light and beauty’ have been in the process of creating it for two years. However, in the two year creation process there has been deaths, relationships ended as well as the trials and tribulations of their tours. The impact of those dealings are set to shine through and express deep emotion throughout their new album.

“A lot has happened in the last two years as my father passed away,” O’Regan admitted.

“We were set to embark on our first tour of America so we did that and then we went to Russia, Australia, Europe.

“Seaver lost his grandmother and had to miss the funeral because we were in Russia at the time and there was kind of relationship breakdowns.”

‘Epherma’ focuses on truthful, heart-felt songs that features aspects of each of the individual members’ personal life and that is what makes it so inviting and warm for fans. A firm favourite and personal track to O’Regan to name ‘Little Brother’ also features on the new track list.

“I wrote this track about my younger brother Alex. My father passed away and everyone deals with grief in their own way but my little brother Alex, had a really difficult time.

“So I wrote that song for him and that’s why that song has a really special meaning for me.”

The five former school friends are continually growing since the success of their much-admired record in 2013. Their experiences since then have led them to positive achievements that they are extremely proud of.

“For this album we wanted to take ownerships with our own ideas and we felt confident to produce the album ourselves,” said O’Regan.

“But we decided we’d bring in a little bit of help just to give us a small bit of guidance.

“It was a truly fulfilling exciting time you know and we couldn’t be prouder of how it turned out really.”

The success the band achieved in 2013 took them on tour across Europe, Australia, and Russia and to the states which they believed they gained knowledge to stand where they are today.

“The one thing that touring does to a band is quite interesting, you have so much time on the road, and so much time waiting around in the back of a bus.

“We kind of always have time to learn in our minds and we listen to new music and read books. If you imagine a scene it’s a back of van and there’s five of us and we’ve all got headphones on, looking out the windows in different directions and everyone is listening to something different.

“And as well it’s been interesting because all our individual music taste have diverted off in different directions and so now there’s this mad spaghetti of music taste going on in the band and it’s made great collective music ideas.”

So it is in hope that the band will bring their experiences to the UK tour ahead later this year. There could be even more tour dates added if we are lucky explains O’Regan.

Throughout the successful rise the band have never changed their motto and that’s what makes them genuine they believe.

“We have just followed our artistic instinct and that’s our motto,” said O’Regan with a degree of authority.

“We listen to our gut and we follow our hearts and put that into our music and if people can have a response and relate to it then that’s our job done.

That’s our mission statement and our main objective just to tell the truth and hopefully someone will be able to relate to it.”

The enticement is just building up for the fans, it seems the band cannot contain their excitement either!

“We actually haven’t done a huge amount of touring around the UK yet and it’s one thing we are really excited about, to start touring and get over there.

“We can’t wait to get to play to some new people, new places and new faces.”

The upcoming band are definitely not to be missed with their new challenged, honest album out, pushing musical boundaries.

Little Green Cars can be caught at Manchester’s Dot to Dot festival, at Ruby Lounge between 00:15-00:45, on May 27.
