VITAMIN performed a unique gig in vintage clothing store Cow in Manchester yesterday (February 9). Quays News entertainment reporter Amy Williams went along…
Four-piece indie band Vitamin formed in 2014 after leaving their studies to pursue their passion for music and growth of the band. Vitamin have toured with the likes of Sundara Karma and Rat Boy, along with setting up their own club nights and live residency in Leeds’ own Brudenell Social Club.
2015 brought the first signing of a record deal for the boys and a release of two E.Ps: Giving It Up and To Believe. As they begin the year of 2016, their second year together, the quartet have a year of gigs and festivals planned to promote their music which has a style of parallels to Superfood and Swim Deep.
This month Vitamin have performed in various Cow Vintage shops across the north of England, which has been the first tour that they have headlined. They took the stage in the Manchester boutique on Tuesday as the last act of the evening where all four of the Leeds band accompanied to perform a short set to a shop full of people.
Their set was short yet effective, and consisted of both old and new songs which included Need Air, Giving It Up, Miss You, and To Believe. With their album looking to be released soon, it was an incredible showcase for the type of band that Vitamin are. Bopping to the beat and dancing to riffs, the groovy tunes played were aligned with a good presence from the band, in particular drummer Theo Cookson.
Although this gig was only a short one, the enthusiasm from lead singer Jared Laville could not be ignored for his insistence for the whole shop to clap along to songs they began playing. On the stage in the corner of the shop floor, Vitamin had an aura that filled the space and made the most of the different venue. With the place of the tour being well loved Cow, the style of each member fitted in with where they were; the simple but stylish outfit combinations presented their quirky image alongside their quirky style of music.
It was clear that the room was filled with both fans and new listeners but the audience interaction from Laville invited any stranger to be involved. From providing free band t-shirts on rails to handing out free tote bags from the stage, Vitamin had the audience in for a treat from the word GO. After the announcement for free t-shirts, people swarmed to the back of the room to grab their merchandise. Once the fun was over, pictures and signings were welcomed by every member of the band; their personalities shone through their performance and grasped new fans with their likeability.
This year brings a lot for Vitamin, with Stockton Calling Festival, Live At Leeds and Great Escape Festival definitely on the cards. After their touring, 2016 will bring the release of an album later on to showcase their new music. No doubt, with their new music, more and more new fans will come alongside it.
